Spring Break will be here before you know it. If you are traveling, you had better be prepared with a plan for the care of your kids if anything goes wrong. (When you are prepared, it is so much easier to enjoy yourself.) Here are 3 Must-Haves for Traveling Parents:
1. A plan for the care of your kids.
If something happened to you, who would care for your kids? You may think you know, but if you do not have a plan in place, there is no guarantee that any particular person would be the guardian. It would be up to a judge to decide, and the decision could be one you would not have liked. It is so easy to take care of this essential step, that there is really no excuse for being guardian-less! (See my FREE resources at the end!)
2. Instructions for caregivers about who to call if there is an emergency.
Having a plan in place is not enough. Do caregivers know who to call if something happens to you? You need to give them instructions, so that they know exactly what to do if you are injured or die. (See my FREE resources at the end!)
3. Communication with family and guardians.
A plan is useless if all you have are some documents stuck in a drawer or safety deposit box. You have to communicate with family and the guardians about your plan. They should know exactly what you want and where they can find your legal documentation.
This would be a good start, and it is a list that you can complete before you go on vacation. As my gift to you, I am giving away my KidsCare Plan, so that you can feel good about traveling, knowing your kids will be cared for if something happens to you.
